Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center

Birth Workers you Need to Know - Edition 4

If you have been following along with Babymoon Concierge in the past year, you know that we are committed to creating relationships with other local businesses in the DFW area that serve pregnant and postpartum mothers. Our cup of tea, truly. When mothers call in asking for recommendations on anything from midwife/OB practices to who to call for maternity shoots (we got you covered here), we take the referrals seriously.

Recently we took the opportunity to host a lunch for the staff at Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center. Babymoon’s owner, Cheryl Abrams, has crossed paths with this group of midwives numerous times in the past decade, and it was a joy to meet more of the team.

You Need to Know

A big question every mother asks when that faint line appears on the pregnancy test is this: “where will I birth this baby?” If you have walked this road before or are asking it for the first time, you know this is a pivotal question. Will you continue in the care of the OBGYN or midwife you have seen for gynecology appointments, or will you chart a new path? In the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, there are countless options. Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center offers the individualized birth experience many families are seeking by offering both hospital and birth center maternity care. In addition to pregnancy and birth care, they offer gynecology appointments for all the other seasons of life. Women’s health services, family planning, fertility support - they are available.

It’s Bigger than just the Birth Center

Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center is part of a greater collective of certified nurse-midwives called Midwife + Co. This collective serves expectant mothers in the DFW area in three hospitals and a free-standing birth center. Split between two locations, the collective is able to serve many families across the metroplex.

Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center, the free-standing birth center and offices for the Midwife+Co Fort Worth location, is where we spent our time.

Inviting Atmosphere

Let me just say, it is beyond welcoming! The exterior is simple enough with a gated parking lot and white washed walls. The interior is STUNNING. You walk in and immediately feel like you could take headshots in their waiting room. The decorations are feminine and colorful, the furniture is comfortable and plentiful, and there is even a tucked in playhouse for the young children in tow. Thank goodness.

Located in the heart of Fort Worth, the birth center feels like an extension of home (without all the mess!). We had the opportunity to take a tour of the birthing suites and got a kick out of the themed rooms. Unlike a traditional hospital setting, the rooms emphasize comfort, mobility, and a touch of fun. While there is medical equipment at hand in every room, it is tucked away with easy access in the event it is needed. This is in line with their physiological view of childbirth that birth is a natural and transformative event.

Pregnancy Approached Differently

The team believes in listening to and respecting women. Women are informed about their choices and decisions regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. This can take time! Contrary to maternity you may find elsewhere, the team makes every effort to allow families to ask questions, receive education, and actively participate in decision making.

Since the team is made up of multiple midwives, they make it a goal to rotate the midwife each prenatal appointment so that clients have a chance to meet and ask questions to each one. Spouses, family members and support persons are invited to attend prenatal visits with the purpose of creating a team-like experience form the jump.

Tell Me About Birth Here

The midwives at Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center are highly trained and have experience in the medical and midwifery model of care. As Certified-Nurse Midwives, they are highly trained and hold either a doctorate or masters degree. When needed, collaborative care is also available with OBGYN physicians. The birth center is perfect for mothers with low-risk pregnancies who are seeking out-of-hospital care.

While the center focuses on natural birth, safety remains at the forefront of care. The midwives continuously monitor both mother and baby during labor and maintain close proximity to a nearby hospital should additional medical intervention become necessary. The midwives attend deliveries at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and Texas Health Harris Methodist in Fort Worth. There are transfer protocols that are established and upheld to ensure the best possible outcomes for the family as a whole.

Families have access to a variety of comfort measures, including hydrotherapy, labor support, intermittent fetal monitoring that allows freedom of movement, nitrous oxide for pain management, and one of the most popular options, water birth.

The center also supports delayed cord clamping, immediate skin-to-skin and other evidence-based practices that promote healthy outcomes for both mother and baby.

An Added Plug

First-time mothers are required to hire a doula for a supportive birth experience at Forth Worth Birthing & Wellness Center. As you’ve heard from us often, doulas can make all the difference in having an empowered birth. We’d love for you to consider Babymoon Concierge’s team of birth doulas.

Shout Out to the Team

It was a joy to see how your team of women is serving the community of DFW with such professionalism, intentionality, and a flare of personality. Thanks for having us!
